How to start homeschooling
in Colorado
The Basics
File a notice of intent (noi) to homeschool with any district in the state 14 days before starting your homeschool. Here is a notice of intent sample. You may also hear this called a letter of intent (loi.)
Keep attendance records. The state of Colorado requires 172 days, 4 hours a day. You can check off on a calendar your school days to meet this requirement. You do not need to turn this in unless requested. Just keep this in your own files.
Keep immunization records or an exemption form. You do not need to turn this in unless requested. Just keep this in your own files.
Students in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 must take a nationally standardized test OR have an evaluation (click here to see how simple and easy evaluations can be!) Results from either option are to be submitted to the district where you filed your letter of intent.
